TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — People were treated to a visual spectacle of the evolution of hanbok, traditional Korean clothing, at the “2022 Korea Hanbok Fashion Show Full of Beauty” organized by the Korean Mission in Taipei on Friday night (November 21). 11) at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park.
South Korea’s representative Chung Byung-Won said in a speech that it is a “great honor and privilege” to hold this event for the first time in Taiwan. He expressed his gratitude to the Korean Culture Association, which sent members to Taiwan to prepare for the show.
Forty “delicately tailored” hanboks were selected to represent the evolution of clothing, dating back more than 2,000 years, Chung said.
The representative also thanked Taipei University for their assistance. A total of 32 students from the Sports Performing Arts Department spent their time modeling the beautiful clothes, he said.
“Their participation symbolizes a good example of cooperation between Korea and Taiwan,” Chung said, adding that he hopes the guests “enjoy and savor the beauty of Korea” through the show.
The accessories, fabrics and colors that accompany the hanbok traditionally indicate the wearer’s social origin, rank and occupation, according to a fashion show information sheet. The general aesthetic of all hanbok centers around the Korean affinity for nature and the desire for protection and supernatural blessings, the sheet says.
Some forms of hanbok featured in the fashion show included Myeonbok, Jeogui, Wonsam, Hwarot, and Bumabok.
