Kumail Nanjiani would “love” his character Kingo to return in a possible ‘Eternals’ sequel.
The actor, 44, said he dreamed of returning as the warrior when asked about a claim from his co-star Patton Oswalt, 53, who played Pip the Troll in the 2021 superhero movie, saying he’s already I was working on a follow up. .
Kumail told ‘The Playlist’ podcast ‘Bingeworthy’ about the rumour: “I have no idea. I don’t think Patton was right. I think there was a fake website, one of those where it’s like a letter from the real thing.
“It got tweeted and spread and I think that’s what Patton saw. Honestly, I don’t know anything.
“I would love for Kingo to come back. I love playing that character. That’s a lot of fun to play, you’re just in a good mood.
“You make finger guns, you’re like a movie star, what’s not to love? You are in a good mood all the time.”
Patton had told ‘Today’: “They have announced that there will be a sequel to Eternals. Chloé Zhao is going to direct it.
“Then hopefully there will be more adventures for Starfox (played by Harry Styles in ‘Eternals’) and Pip.”
Marvel hasn’t announced Eternals 2, but Kumail added that he “would love to come back” as he loves “what the MCU is doing right now.”
He said, “I just saw ‘Black Panther 2’ and I was really impressed. So, I’d love to come back, but I really have no idea if or when.”
Directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, 40, ‘Eternals’ also starred Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Barry Keoghan, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.
Kumail said last year that he wanted to use Kingo to break stereotypes of Middle Eastern characters on screen.
He added, “I’ve been in this industry for about a decade and I’ve seen the usual opportunities that brown guys get. We get to be nerd. I wanted it to be the opposite of that, I wanted it to be cool.
“With nerd goes ‘weak,’ and I wanted him to be the opposite of that and be physically strong.
“Or we become terrorists, and I wanted him to be the opposite. I wanted him to be this character full of joy.”
