Press releases | KCMO.gov – Kansas City, MO

The Kansas City Health Department has lifted the curtain on its new Northland office, making it more convenient for residents north of the river to access public health services.

The office is located at 5340 NE Chouteau Trafficway and is open 8 am to 5 pm weekdays (closed 1 pm to 2 pm for lunch). It was established through a partnership with Northland Neighborhoods Inc., a nonprofit organization that works with residents and businesses to build healthy communities.

“The expansion of health department services at NNI is welcome news,” said Deb Hermann, executive director of NNI. “Northland residents appreciate the friendly and highly professional health department staff that is now closer to where they live and ready to serve them.”

At the Northland office, residents can:

  • Attend face-to-face food handler classes.
  • Receive a food handler card (once a resident passes the online course, please bring the certificate of completion so we can process your card)
  • If you open a restaurant or other food service business, we can help you navigate the permitting process to obtain the proper permits.
  • Obtain birth and death certificates
  • Receive flu, COVID, shingles and pneumonia vaccinations at our monthly vaccination clinic
  • The next clinics are open from 2 pm to 5 pm on Thursday, November 10 and Thursday, December 8

“We hope Northlanders will mark their calendars for the second Thursday of the month. A nurse from the health department will be on site with these important vaccines that prepare our bodies to fight back when we are exposed to these viruses,” said Marvia Jones, Kansas City health director.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone older than 6 months get a flu and COVID vaccine, unless they have a severe, life-threatening allergy.

Rate:

  • COVID Vaccines – Free for all
  • Flu: Generally covered by Medicare and most insurance plans; free for people without insurance
  • Shingles and pneumonia: Depending on insurance and Medicare coverage, there may be an out-of-pocket cost
