A man has been arrested in the deadly shooting inside a Northwestern Mutual office on Wednesday. The shooting occurred at the Cochran Road office in Scott Township on Wednesday. Zairyre Mikhail Simmons, 23, of Pittsburgh, turned himself in to police around 7:45 p.m., according to an Allegheny County police news release. An arrest warrant had been issued for him, charging him with homicide and firearms violations. The victim has been identified in court documents as Dorian L. Carver, 32, of Natrona Heights. According to the criminal complaint, Simmons, a Taco Bell manager, had written to Carver about the company’s policy days earlier. The complaint explains that on Wednesday, the two men argued over the report and had to be separated. Carver then left the Taco Bell and walked toward Northwestern Mutual, according to the complaint, with Simmons following him. Detectives said a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol was found behind a vacant building next to the Northwestern Mutual building. That gun matches a witness description of the firearm used to shoot Carver twice. Witnesses reportedly saw Simmons run from the scene. Carver was pronounced dead at the scene. A Northwestern Mutual communications representative confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that no one from the financial institution was injured in the incident. Furthermore, Northwestern Mutual “has no reason to believe that Northwestern Mutual customers were directly involved in the incident.” Chartiers Valley Middle School was closed due to the incident. The school is a mile away from the scene. Beth-El Congregation on Cochran Road tells us Allegheny County 911 told them to go into a lockdown situation. The synagogue has a childcare program. Saints Simon and Jude Parish School on Greentree Road was also closed, as was Mushroom Valley Family Learning. Those orders were later lifted. The school district said at no time were students or staff in any danger. Simmons will remain in the Allegheny County Jail pending arraignment.
